Awkward

Friday May 30, 2008

Webster’s defines awkward as lacking social grace and assurance or causing embarrassment.  I define it as having to talk to my kids about breasts.  Particularly, mine.  Let me preface this whole experience by saying I am not comfortable talking to my kids about their body parts in clinical or any other terms.  I know lots of other people are.  In fact, my sister is one of those people.  Myself, I would rather just refer to it as their pee pee than their penis or vagina.  My brain can’t even fathom saying those words to my kids.  I’m not sure why I have such a hangup with it because I don’t have a problem talking about those things with other adults.  It’s just kids that I feel like it’s all wildly inappropriate.  Having explained that, let me tell you what happened. The face of a little man

Friday May 30, 2008

My little buddy is not my baby anymore.  Gone are the exaggerated chubber chipmunk cheeks and the rounded face.  In it’s place is a longer version of the adorable face I know.  His cheeks are still full but in a little boy way instead of the baby I once held.  His hair has darkened and thickened.  His arms and legs have slimmed down and grown long.  And the big boy clothes I never thought he would wear without rolling them up, now fit him perfectly.

I knew this day would come.  Read the rest of this entry »

Pork & Beans

Tuesday May 27, 2008

As always, Weezer’s new song Pork & Beans is awesome.  I just watched the video and it is a great blend of all those YouTube videos that get watched a million times.  See how many you can spot.

And just for old times sake, my absolute favorite Weezer song… Buddy Holly.  I crank it everytime I’m in the car.  Hopefully, Emma will learn all the words.  Video is great too

Calgon, take me away

I am so tired.  I had offered to my sister a while ago that her 2 youngest (Madi & Hayden) could spend the weekend here.  My oldest niece, Brooke, had a soccer tournament in Traverse City this weekend and the younger 2 would have been miserable sitting there watching her play for 2 days.  Besides, Emma & Gerrit are constantly asking when they can come over and play so I thought it would be a great time.

They arrived about 1pm on Friday and started playing hard.  The weather was beautiful here Read the rest of this entry »

If you build it, they will stay

When we moved into our house 7 years ago, we wanted to put up a privacy fence.  Our neighbors weren’t terrible or anything, we just thought it would be great to have our backyard to ourselves.  The problem came when we started adding up what it would cost.  Dan would put it up himself so we would save on labor but lumber still adds up.  The dollars outweighed our desire and so we lived on without a fence.

7 years later,  Read the rest of this entry »

It has come to my attention that I’ve been slacking in a major way.  I have never talked about the zoo we have going on here.  It started simply enough 12 years ago when Dan & I first moved in together and we found Quigley at the pet store Dan worked at.  Read the rest of this entry »

Move over June Cleaver

Thursday May 15, 2008

I don’t know what has happened to me, but I am just about the most domesticated person I know!  Not really.  BUT I am waaay more than I ever pictured myself becoming.  I really don’t know what’s come over me.  Read the rest of this entry »

We have been on a slow search for a newer vehicle for me the last couple months.  A good friend of mine, Cheri, owns a car lot and her wonderful son (Matt) has been looking at the auctions for my latest crush.  I say crush because I am totally in love with the GMC Envoy XL.

They are such a nice, smooth ride.  Just thinking about driving one makes me all warm and fuzzy in my heart.  Right now, I have a ‘98 Expedition Read the rest of this entry »
