My new nephew was born a week ago today.  He got his holidays confused and instead of being born just after Valentine’s Day, he was born Christmas Eve.  Since his sister was born 9 wks early, we weren’t shocked to have his early arrival.  I was able to see him shortly after he Read the rest of this entry »

Gift for Santa

Tuesday December 23, 2008

Last night, Gerrit asked me for a paper that he could cut.  I gave him one and he proceeded to carefully cut it into 2 strips.  He brought one over and asked me to fold it into a square for him and then he went and taped the ends down to keep it that way.

Then he brought it back to me and said “This is for Santa, so he won’t be sad when he comes and there’s nothing for him”  What a sweet boy!  I was so proud of him for thinking about Santa’s feelings instead of thinking about what he might be getting.  It won’t be the nicest thing that Santa ever got but it might have the most love attached to it.

Gerrit’s first day of school

Gerrit started preschool last week and I handled it better than I thought I would.  As always, I dropped Emma off for school first and then we picked up Nadia.  We came home for 1/2 hr until it was time to bring Gerrit.  As we drove home from getting Nadia, it kind of hit me and I got my teary eyes out of the way then.

When we pulled up at his school, he was so excited.  He got his backpack on and looked like such a big boy.  We walked to the main door and I took a couple pictures.  He kept putting his shoulders up for some reason right when I was going to snap the picture.

The face of a little man

Friday May 30, 2008

My little buddy is not my baby anymore.  Gone are the exaggerated chubber chipmunk cheeks and the rounded face.  In it’s place is a longer version of the adorable face I know.  His cheeks are still full but in a little boy way instead of the baby I once held.  His hair has darkened and thickened.  His arms and legs have slimmed down and grown long.  And the big boy clothes I never thought he would wear without rolling them up, now fit him perfectly.

I knew this day would come.  Read the rest of this entry »
