Dan, Emma, Gerrit & I are sitting in a Burger King after Emma’s state competition this past Saturday. As we ‘encourage’ them to eat faster so we can make the hour long trek back home… this conversation unfolds:
Emma looking next to her at the window: “Ew… a bug!”
Me: “Emma, don’t be such a baby. It’s just a bug”
Emma realizing that it’s not on the inside: “Oh, it’s outside the window“
Me: “Great… then eat“
We continue with our lunch but Dan & I stop dead in our tracks when Read the rest of this entry »
Diva what, diva who, diva where? It’s B!

This past Saturday was the regional competition for Emma’s competitive cheer. Her team had taken first at regional & state in the fall but the spring team had a lot of new girls. Plus, their routine seemed incredibly complicated this time. With both of those things factored in, we wondered if we stood a chance of making it to the state competition. Dan & I were a little torn if we even wanted her to make it because it would mean leaving a day early from our B family vacation in June.
Emma is the first one in the fourth line from the left.
The song that they danced to is ‘It’s All About Me’which was too cute. They certainly were little divas out there with their tiaras and glitter. They did a pretty good job and Read the rest of this entry »
Father/Daughter Dance
Friday February 13, 2009
Last weekend, Dan took Emma to her first dance. While he wasn’t thrilled to be going to a dance, he was happy to be doing something special with Emma. The dance was semi-formal and so Emma wore a dress she got for Christmas and I curled her hair with curlers. To say she was excited would be putting it mildly.

Dan suffered through the dance and Emma had a fantastic time. They had a dancer there that danced like a robot and Emma got to stay up an hour past her bedtime! She was a happy but tired squirrel when she went to bed.
Dance Party
Monday December 8, 2008
A couple weeks ago, Emma & Gerrit had their friends Savannah & Makayla spend the night. Emma requested that I put the “I Like To Move It” video from Madagascar on so they could dance. This is what ensued.
Apparently, they do like to move it
Bliss

Last week, my friend Cheri, invited us to stay at their cottage on Gun Lake for the entire week. It is a hugely popular lake around here because the fishing is great, it’s big enough to do water sports without overcrowding issues and it’s close. When she initially asked me, I figured she must be needing a kidney or bone marrow transplant but the truth of the matter is that Cheri is just an amazingly generous and lovely person. I packed up our gear and we took the 40min drive there.
The kids and I had so much fun and I’ll load up those pictures and videos later. First, I wanted to let you see the amazing view we had from our deck overlooking Gun Lake. The sunsets were spectacular and my camera phone tried it’s darnedest to capture the essence. Of course, it was futile but here are some of my views.

My Secret
Monday June 16, 2008
My name is Chris and I admit to liking my minivan. If I’m being completely honest, I actually have to admit that I, uh er, love it. It rides so nice and is so pretty inside (I’m not ready to admit the outside is pretty yet). We took the dogs with us for the first time yesterday and I was nervous about them being in there. I was concerned that they wouldn’t stay back behind the 2nd row seats or that they would scratch the bumper jumping in but they did good. They tried once or twice each to nose up next to the kids but I corrected them and the rest of the drive they spent either laying down or sitting pretty with their noses in the air smelling. I love the fact that the floor is low enough that their wet noses can’t reach the back windows (YAAA!) and so they might just stay clean. Imagine that.
The kids love that they can open and close their own doors for the first time ever. “Magic” Read the rest of this entry »

Our official song
Eight years ago, I awoke on this day to the sound of my niece’s small voice. As I sat up in bed, I felt a crick in my neck from sleeping on the wold’s flattest pillow. The pain tried to entice me to stay in bed for a while longer but not on this day. I jumped up and came out of the room to find my sister, Steph. Read the rest of this entry »
