To the dogs or whoever

Here we are, November already.  Where do the days go?  Ah yes… work, school, homework, soccer, cheer, errands, chores.  Rinse and repeat.  Every week is mashed full of the normal activites then sprinkled with random events for flavor.  Just in case someone’s life is devoid of purpose without an update of said events, I’ll give you the low down.

Soccer

Both Emma and Gerrit just finished their last soccer games on Saturday.  While I’m not holding my breath on them playing in the World Cup someday, I will say they both have fun.  And as Gerrit will tell you that’s the most important thing!  At the end of the season, all the kids are supposed to receive a medal but for some reason, Emma has yet to get one (spring or fall).  You wouldn’t think that a little medal could mean so much to a girl who’s shelf is overflowing with cheer trophies and medals but it does.  I suggested that maybe the universe was just trying to even the scale for Gerrit but she’s not buying it.

Gerrit’s birthday

This year, as promised, he got to have his BIG friend party for his 7th birthday.  BIG meant more than 3 friends and he chose to invite 6.  Dan and I took them to see a movie and then back home for pizza, ice cream and presents.  Taking them to the movie was a perfect way to pass a couple of hours and left a little over an hour to be at our house.  Have you ever had six little boys in your house at once???  Well, if you’ve never experienced it yourself, let me tell you what it’s like.  CHAOS!  Straight up incredibly loud, slightly violent chaos.  When it was all over with, I asked Gerrit if he had a good birthday party.  He said “yea but it was a little crazy when everyone was here!”.  Word.

Halloween

Somehow we managed to find time to get Emma & Gerrit costumes and carve pumpkins.  Ok, Dan actually carved the pumpkins when the kids were at school but geez… when are we supposed to fit it in?

The kids were Woody and Jessie from Toy Story 3.

I loved watching Gerrit light up everytime someone passed him and said “hi woody”.  Emma was thoughtful enough to bring her Jessie doll along because ‘she’s never been trick or treating before’.  Post Halloween, I’m wondering how my dieting has any chance of success with 18lbs of candy staring at me everyday.

The Mode Life

You might have noticed me posting links to The Mode Life where I’ve been asked to be a contributor.  I gleefully accepted and now I’m just trying to figure out my niche.  Like the new kid at school, I’m not sure exactly where I fit in yet.  Fortunately, they are incredibly nice and helpful.  You can like them on Facebook to follow all the fantastic articles.

Impending doom

As it does every year, my approaching birthday has given me pause.  Just the faintest tickle of panic right now, I’m sure the passing of each day will leave me more and more disconcerted.  Realizing that I’m about to end up on the wrong side of 30 leaves me more than a little glum.  I’m sick of my hair, sick of my clothes, sick of my skin, sick of my brain.  I’d call it a mid life crisis but in truth, it happens every year.  The bright side is if I am actually having one, I’ll finally get that Stingray I’ve always wanted.

This design is incredible! You definitely know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

Passing 30 isn’t so bad. I’m only 2.5 years from FORTY. Oh my Cher!
    The kids look so cute!
When are you going to join me on Google Plus (nudge, nudge)?

Thanks Brian! I know I’m biased but I thought they were a rediculously cute Woody & Jessie 😉 I should have been clearer… I’m on the wrong side of 30’s. As in the 10 year span spent in them. I’m not too far behind you in age. Good thing we’re just getting better with age or we’d have to stress, huh? I promise I will look into Google + just for YOU.
